The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking qualified candidates for Nurse Practitioner at Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia
Provide healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed physician. Conduct complete physicals, provide treatment, and counsel clients. May, in some cases, prescribe medication.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:
· Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests
· Develops comprehensive plans of care
· Examines clients to obtain information about their physical condition
· Instructs and counsels clients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance
· Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal
· Makes tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of clients
· Obtains compiles and records client medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination
· Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management
· Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval
· Visits and observes clients on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician
