Certified Peer Specialist

Job Description

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Certified Peer Specialist at East Central Regional Hospital located n Augusta, GA.

Job Description:

Assists with daily living activities at the person's home, in a daytime non-residential facility or a residential facility. Provides training of basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills to consumers/students in a state school, hospital, juvenile detention facility, residence, group home, workshop, or supported employment environment. This is the entry/training level of the Client Support Worker job series. Incumbents at this level may require additional training or experience to gain full proficiency in some or all of the job responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

  • Arranges for needed medical care and provides needed services to assure that medical care is obtained
  • Assists in presentation of educational group lectures related to appropriate topics
  • Cares for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, family disruption or convalescence, providing companionship, personal care, and help in adjusting to new lifestyles
  • Instructs clients/residents on daily living skills in one-on-one or group instruction
  • May advise clients on behavioral problems, daily decision-making, and the resolution of minor problems
  • Participates in case reviews
  • Performs housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, washing clothes and dishes, and running errands
  • Plans, shops for, and prepares meals, including special diets, and assists families in planning, shopping for, and preparing nutritious meals
  • Prepares and maintains records of client progress and services performed, reporting changes in
  • Provides transportation for clients/residents to appointments and activities

Sample Technical Competencies:

  • Ability to observe and monitor participants' behavior.
  • Ability to assist and supervise participants with daily living activities.
  • Ability to develop individualized plans.
  • Ability to provide training and/or orientation services to participants.
  • Ability to participate in supportive guidance, staff supervision sessions, program planning meetings, consumer staffings and service training.


 

Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience, which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities 


Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to those who, in addition to meeting the above qualifications, also possess the following:

  • 2 years for active participation in self0help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, consumer-run organizations, or similar programs
  • Completion of the DHR training and certified as a Peer Specialist
