The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Infection Control Nurse at Georgia Regional Hospital At Savannah (please visit www.garegionalsavannah.com for more information about the hospital).
Directs and coordinates infection control program in the hospital: Compares laboratory reports with communicable diseases list to identify conditions that require infection control procedures. Advises and consults with physicians, nurses, and hospital personnel concerning precautions to be taken to protect patients, staff, and other persons from possible contamination or infection. Investigates infection control problems. Instructs hospital personnel regarding infection prevention and control matters. Conducts employee physicals and maintains employee health records.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:
1. Performs on-going surveillance of infections by collecting, compiling, reviewing and analyzing all infection control related data to identify hospital/community acquired infections, trends, clusters, and potential epidemics. 2. Develops, implements and utilize programs and methods to prevent the spread of infection; applying recommended CDC, federal, state, and other regulatory agency guidelines. 3. Uses a variety of established prevention methods in order to prevent and control infections. 4. Develops monitors and reports compliance with Infection Control policy and procedure ensuring that CDC and all current guidelines, regulations and laws are implemented in practice. 5. Serves as a consultant for infection control to hospital and other agencies. 6. Observes nurses and visits consumers to ensure that proper nursing care is provided as it relates to Infection Control. 7. Provides education to consumers and staff. 8. Conducts employee physicals and maintains employee health records.

Current Georgia license to practice as a registered professional nurse AND Two or more years of experience in a managerial, supervisory or leadership role
Must obtain the Safety Cares certification by completion of new employee orientation. Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (would be a plus but not required), experience coordinating the Infection Control Program for a hospital organization. Completion of a Master's degree in Nursing, (would be a plus but not required); AND one year experience preparing organizations to meet the requirements of the Center of Medicare and Medicaid, The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Office of Regulatory Services and any other applicable regulatory agencies or guidelines.
